The use of illicit drugs may start out as an experiment or an attempt to fit in, but addiction is too common place to assume it won’t be the end result. It’s not only addiction that can lead to ruin; it’s the effects of the long term use of drugs and alcohol that can destroy your life. For a temporary high, you may trade your long term health and ability to function normally.
A drugs effects depend on which area of the brain it stimulates. Take heroin for instance, it creates opiates in the brain, the pleasure receptors. A normal brain creates opiates without the use of drugs. When heroin is introduced in the body, it takes over the production of opiates and the brain ceases production of opiates. A formerly happy person suddenly can’t feel joy without using heroin. The heroin addict is dependent on its use just to have normal happy feelings.
Marijuana is a drug that was once sold by pharmacies in America under the name cannabis. It was touted for its amazing pain relief properties. These characteristics are real, but they are accompanied by additional affects. Marijuana impairs the ability to solve problems. It weakens short term memory and even blocks the formation of long term memories.
The effects of drugs like cocaine seem to be able to stimulate the sex drive initially, but its continued use leads to a reduced ability to feel pleasure. It also distorts your ability to determine the safety of your immediate environment. Most cocaine users become paranoid and anxious.
Many people in America feel comfortable abusing alcohol. Most believe it only has temporary effects unless the person is addicted. The immediate effects of alcohol are distorted vision, reduced coordination, impaired judgment, and memory lapses. Long term, the alcoholic damages their organs and eventually dies from the abuse.
Whether it’s the effects of drugs or the effects of drinking, the human body suffers when exposed to elements that do not fortify it. Drugs and alcohol are stimulants that have a poisonous effect. They stimulate the body and thus are thought to be pleasurable to use, but their use as a stimulant comes at a high cost. If you live through the experience, you could lose your ability to feel normal pleasure, be unable to remember things and events, and or damage essential organs and eventually die from organ failure.
